Ogbonnaya Onu, the inaugural civilian governor of Abia State, has passed away, as reported by BBC Igbo News.
Onu, who also served as the Minister of Science and Technology under President Muhammadu Buhari, died in an Abuja hospital.
He was originally from Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and was born on 1st December, 1951.
At 72 years old, Onu resigned from his ministerial position to vie for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022 but was unsuccessful, losing to President Bola Tinubu.
