Chaos erupted at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Monday when a police officer allegedly shot and killed a student while injuring two others.
The incident occurred during the officer’s attempt to resolve a dispute between two individuals on campus. As the officer intervened, he purportedly fired shots into the air, resulting in the fatal shooting and injuries.
A source said the police officer was one of the arrow heads of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) officers who allegedly terrorised the students community in LAUTECH in Ogbomoso.
The source said, “The officer in question has his picture all over the Internet during the Endsars saga, he was one of the arrow heads of the disbanded SARS officer who terrorised the students community in LAUTECH Ogbomoso.
“After the EndSars saga one would expect that normalcy would have been restored but instead he was drafted back into the police force and here we are praying for another family for strength to bear the loss of a child who only came to celebrate with his brother on his convocation.”
Following the tragic event, students protested by locking the school gates and demanding justice for the deceased. SP Adewale Osifeso, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, was unavailable for immediate comment when contacted.
