The Oyo State government has not yet determined the date for the coronation of Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, one month after his selection by the Olubadan-in-Council, according to DAILY POST.
Olakulehin, from the Okugbaja lineage in the Ita Baale area of Ibadan North East local government, currently holds the position of Balogun of Ibadanland. He was chosen and nominated as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland by the Olubadan-in-Council on April 12, 2024, following the passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun.
The nomination was overseen by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja. Olakulehin’s name has been submitted to the Oyo State government for official approval, announcement, and coronation.
Although the state government has received the letter, the date for Olakulehin’s coronation has yet to be announced. This delay has raised concerns among some prominent individuals in the city of Ibadan.
Several individuals who spoke urged the governor to promptly confirm and announce the date for Olakulehin’s coronation. An anonymous Ibadan indigene advised the governor to confirm Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland without unnecessary delay.
“Senator Ladoja has withdrawn his case, Olakulehin has been nominated since, so we don’t know what next. The governor should confirm him on time. There is no need to waste more time again. We are anxiously waiting for the day of coronation.”
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Matters, however said that the delay is caused by some administrative issues.
