House Of Representatives Orders Exemption Of Armed Forces From Airport, Seaport Tollgate Fees

The House of Representatives has instructed the Minister of Aviation to ensure that Members of the Armed Forces are exempt from tollgate and parking fees at airports, seaports, and train stations in Nigeria.

This directive came after Hon. Abdussammad Dasuki moved a motion during Tuesday’s plenary, stressing the need to waive such fees for military personnel. Dasuki highlighted a May 14, 2024, announcement where the Minister of Aviation mentioned that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had decided to cancel all exemptions on airport access payments for VIPs due to significant revenue losses.

Dasuki argued that members of the Armed Forces, who serve and protect the nation, deserve gratitude and honor for their sacrifices, including losing lives and sustaining injuries. He emphasized that exempting them from such fees would be a way to show appreciation and acknowledge their immeasurable contributions.

The House also directed its Committee on Aviation to ensure compliance with this directive.
