Tinubu govt has recorded significant strides in various sectors – FG

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced on Wednesday that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has achieved several significant milestones across various sectors within its first year. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made this statement at a World Press Conference titled ‘Ministerial Sectoral Updates’, marking the one-year anniversary of the Tinubu administration.

Present at the press conference were the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu.

Senator Akume highlighted that President Tinubu’s leadership has led to notable progress in different sectors of the economy. He emphasized that the purpose of the Ministerial Sector Updates was to provide accountability to Nigerians, showcase the administration’s achievements, and reassure the public of the government’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at positively impacting the socio-economic life of Nigerians.

Akume stated, “Through prudent fiscal policies and strategic investments, the Nigerian economy has shown resilience and potential for growth. The administration’s focus on infrastructure development, job creation, and economic diversification has laid the foundation for sustainable progress and prosperity for all Nigerians.”

He pointed out key accomplishments, such as:

1. **Electricity Reform:** The signing of the 2023 Electricity Bill, which dismantled monopolistic control over electricity and allowed state governments, corporations, and individuals to generate, distribute, and transmit electricity, thereby decentralizing the power sector.

2. **Data Protection:** The passage of the Nigeria Data Protection Bill 2023, establishing a legal framework for safeguarding personal information and promoting data protection practices.

3. **Fuel Subsidy Removal:** The challenging yet necessary removal of fuel subsidies, which were known for fostering corruption and inefficiency, imposing significant fiscal strain, and primarily benefiting the affluent and smugglers rather than the general populace.

Akume praised President Tinubu’s first year as a testament to the administration’s dedication to serving the Nigerian people with diligence and integrity despite numerous challenges. He highlighted significant economic reforms that have attracted foreign investments, reduced inflation, and boosted job creation.

He also mentioned the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, human capital development through investments in healthcare and education, and enhancing security. The completion of numerous infrastructure projects, including road networks, rail systems, and port modernization, underscores the administration’s efforts to boost trade and connectivity.

In healthcare and education, the launch and upgrade of facilities demonstrate the administration’s focus on citizens’ well-being. Ensuring safety and security remains a top priority, with strengthened security apparatus and enhanced intelligence gathering.

Additionally, Akume noted social intervention programs aimed at alleviating poverty and empowering vulnerable segments of society through financial assistance, skill acquisition opportunities, and improved access to essential services.

He highlighted the administration’s commitment to good governance and the rule of law, which has strengthened democratic institutions and enhanced transparency and accountability. President Tinubu’s resolve to combat corruption and promote ethical leadership has garnered support from the Nigerian people.

In conclusion, Akume called on citizens to take collective responsibility and commitment to nation-building, emphasizing that it is not the sole duty of the government.
