The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) halted port operations nationwide on Monday in adherence to the strike directive issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).
An MWUN official informed Vanguard that, apart from the ports in Lagos, all other port facilities in Port Harcourt, Warri, Onne, Calabar, and elsewhere have been closed indefinitely.
The official stated that the ports would remain closed until further instructions are received from the national leadership of the organized labour.
The organized labour initiated a nationwide shutdown of the economy on Monday due to the federal government’s failure to adopt its proposed national minimum wage.
