Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has credited the current state of democracy in Nigeria to the sacrifices made by the late Kudirat Abiola, the wife of MKO Abiola.
Atiku highlighted Kudirat Abiola’s activism, describing her as a revered figure in Nigerian history due to her courageous efforts.
Kudirat Abiola was tragically assassinated on June 4, 1996, and an inquiry into her death revealed the involvement of Sergeant Rogers in the assassination.
In a tribute marking the 28th anniversary of her assassination, Atiku took to his social media handle on X to honor her memory, emphasizing her pivotal role in the struggle for democracy during the period of MKO Abiola’s incarceration.
He emphasized that Kudirat Abiola’s activism and leadership qualities distinguished her as a timeless heroine, whose sacrifices paved the way for the democracy enjoyed by Nigerians today.
Atiku concluded by praying for her soul to rest in eternal peace.
