Why Xavi was sacked as manager – Barcelona president, Laporta

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, has revealed the reasons behind the decision to dismiss Xavi Hernandez as manager.

Towards the end of April, there were ongoing efforts to convince Xavi to stay with the club. However, the situation shifted when the former Spain midfielder made remarks about Barcelona’s financial struggles and their impact on competing with a strong Real Madrid team.

Laporta was displeased with Xavi’s comments, leading to the decision to part ways with the club legend within a month, with Flick taking over as his successor.

In an episode of ‘The President’s Podcast’ on Barça One, Laporta explained, “Xavi initially expressed his trust in the team, but certain statements he made seemed to contradict his previous stance. This prompted me to reconsider, and I felt it was necessary to make a change, a sentiment that was shared among the board.”
