Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is threatening to sue Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, for defamation. Onanuga claimed Obi’s supporters were sponsoring planned protests against President Tinubu’s administration, and said Obi would be held responsible for any liabilities arising from the demonstrations.
In response, Obi’s lawyer, Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN, demanded N5 billion in damages and a retraction of Onanuga’s statement in national newspapers, alongside an unreserved apology within 72 hours. The letter from Obi’s lawyer described Onanuga’s allegations as false, malicious, and damaging to Obi’s reputation, emphasizing Obi’s commitment to lawful and peaceful political engagement.
