In a tragic loss for the Nigerian entertainment industry, the renowned singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at 72.
The news surfaced late Tuesday night after she suddenly collapsed at a birthday celebration for Mrs. Stella Okoli. Onwenu had just delivered an impressive performance at the event before collapsing shortly after her set.
Witnesses at the party reported that she was quickly taken to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, but despite medical efforts, she could not be saved.
An eyewitness said, “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it.”
As of this report, Onwenu’s family has not yet issued an official statement regarding her death.
