The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the youth wing of the leading Igbo socio-cultural group, re-elected Mazi Okwu Nnabuike as its National President on Monday. The election took place in Enugu, where Okwu was joined by other members of the group’s National Executive Council (NEC).
A statement from Dr. Barr. Maduabuchi Anthony, Chairman of the Election Committee, listed the other newly elected NEC members, including Chuks Ikekpeazu (Deputy National President), Nwamkpa Chinonso (National Vice President, Abia), Nwaite Casmir (National Vice President, Ebonyi), Uzoigwe Josephat (National Vice President, Anambra), Alvin Dubem (National Vice President, Delta), and Bobby Ezimonye (National Vice President, Rivers). Other officials include Comrade Obinna Achionye (National Secretary), Chizoba Kenechukwu (Assistant National Secretary), Ebubechukwu S. N. (National Publicity Secretary), Chioma Izunna (Financial Secretary), and Enyinna Joseph (National Treasurer).
State youth leaders were also elected, including Ogbonnaya Obasi (Abia), Kingsley Azubuike (Anambra), Ndubuisi Ezema (Enugu), Sunday Everistus Nweze (Ebonyi), Udochukwu Aligwoekwe (Imo), Nwogueze Chinweuba (Delta), and Ugwueze Uzoh (Abuja FCT).
In his acceptance speech, Okwu emphasized the youth wing’s commitment to advancing the economic and political progress of the Igbo nation. He expressed deep concern over the prolonged detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), reiterating the group’s clear stance on the issue. Okwu called for the release of Kanu, criticizing the lack of focus on this issue during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Enugu State.
He also voiced opposition to attempts by politicians to take control of Ohanaeze for personal gain, promising to continue resisting such efforts. Okwu thanked the Igbo youth for re-electing him and assured them that he would work in the best interest of the region.
It’s worth noting that Okwu has served a four-year term before this re-election for another term.
