Ibadan Stampede: Court fixes date for bail of ex-Queen, Naomi, Oriyomi Hazmat

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has scheduled January 13 to deliver a ruling on the bail application of Naomi Silekunola, the former Queen of the Ooni of Ife, Oriyomi Hazmat, and Abdullahi Fasasi. Justice K. B. Olawoyin set the date after hearing the case on Tuesday.

Naomi, Hazmat—who owns the Ibadan-based radio station Agidigbo FM—and Fasasi, the Principal of Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, were arrested following a tragic stampede in December.

The stampede, which occurred during a food distribution in Ibadan, resulted in the deaths of over 35 people. The defense lawyers for the accused individuals had filed bail applications with the court.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, Justice Olawoyin adjourned the ruling on the bail application to January 13, 2025. The suspects are currently being held at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Agodi.
