Lagos Police arraign teacher for physically assaulting 3-year-old pupil in a viral video

The Lagos Police on Thursday brought 46-year-old teacher Stella Nwadigbo to court for physically assaulting a 3-year-old child in her class, an incident that went viral.

Nwadigbo, who lives in Isawo, Ikorodu, is facing charges of assault causing grievous bodily harm at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court. Prosecutor ASP Raji Akeem informed the court that the assault occurred on January 7 at Christ Mitot School in Ikorodu, Lagos. The teacher was caught on video hitting the 3-year-old boy while attempting to teach him to write numbers.

The charges violate Sections 135 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Nwadigbo pleaded not guilty to the charges. Chief Magistrate Mrs. O. Kushanu granted her bail at N200,000 with two sureties in a similar amount. The case was adjourned to February 18 for a mention.
