Troops arrest suspected gunrunner, recover submachine gun in Taraba

Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a suspected gunrunner in Taraba State.

The suspect, identified as Alhaji Adamu Usman, was apprehended on January 13, 2025, in the Gassol Local Government Area. A statement issued by Captain Oni Olubodunde, the acting spokesperson for the brigade, revealed that a fabricated submachine gun was among the items seized from the suspect.

The operation, which was carried out based on credible intelligence, involved a targeted raid on Usman’s home in Maraban Gassol, Gassol Local Government Area. During the search, the troops found the illegally made submachine gun, believed to be connected to arms trafficking.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism during the operation. He reiterated the brigade’s commitment to ensuring peace and combating the spread of illegal firearms in the state.

He also called on the public to continue providing reliable information to security agencies to help tackle security issues effectively.
