A massive blaze swept through Ladipo Market in Mushin and Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road in Lagos State, decimating goods worth millions of naira. The inferno ignited on Tuesday at around 1am, rapidly consuming numerous shops and warehouses filled with mechanical tools, vehicle spare parts, motorcycles, and household appliances.
Firefighters battled the raging flames for several hours at Ladipo Market, ultimately bringing the fire under control by 6am. Meanwhile, a separate fire broke out at Owode Onirin Market, affecting stores that trade in metallic materials. Emergency crews from the Alausa and Ikorodu Fire Stations intervened promptly, containing that blaze by 5am.
Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Director, Margaret Adeseye confirmed that no casualties were recorded in either incident. She commended the courageous efforts of firefighters from Isolo, Bolade, and Alausa stations, who, despite facing access challenges, successfully prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring businesses. Adeseye also assured the public that investigations are underway to determine the causes of both fires.
