A prominent Niger Delta anti-pipeline vandalization group has thrown its weight behind sweeping reforms led by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) aimed at stabilizing the country’s downstream oil and gas sector. In a statement on Tuesday, Pathfinder Fiawei, National Coordinator of the Anti-Pipeline, Oil Theft & Illegal Bunkering Task Force, hailed the transformative initiatives championed by NNPCL’s Downstream head, Isiyaku Abdullahi.
Fiawei emphasized that these reforms have significantly invigorated the oil and gas value chain, fostering increased competitiveness that is already translating into a gradual reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit. “As critical stakeholders in the sector, we have meticulously monitored NNPCL’s efforts and witnessed the undeniable impact of the timely reforms. These changes are revolutionizing the narrative of our oil and gas industry,” he declared.
This endorsement comes amid heated debates over the continued importation of Premium Motor Spirit, even as Dangote Refinery boasts the capacity to satisfy 100% of Nigeria’s petroleum demand. At the ongoing Nigeria International Energy Summit in Abuja, NNPCL Group CEO Mele Kyari reaffirmed the firm’s unwavering commitment to energy security in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act. Notably, while NNPC retail stations are currently selling PMS at N965 per litre, Dangote petrol is priced more competitively at N945 per litre at MRS filling stations, with other outlets offering rates between N970 and N1000 per litre.
