Kylian Mbappé has intensified his legal battle against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), seeking €55 million in unpaid wages and bonuses. This sum includes three months’ salary and the final portion of a loyalty bonus that Mbappé asserts remain unpaid since his departure to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024.
Despite a ruling from the French league’s appeals commission in October 2024 ordering PSG to pay the outstanding amount, the club has refused, citing an alleged verbal agreement wherein Mbappé would forgo these payments upon leaving. Mbappé’s legal team disputes this claim, emphasizing the absence of written evidence.
In response to PSG’s continued non-compliance, Mbappé’s lawyers have taken decisive action by obtaining a court order to freeze €55 million of PSG’s assets. Additionally, they have approached UEFA, requesting the suspension of PSG’s Champions League license due to the club’s failure to meet financial obligations.
The legal proceedings are ongoing, with a hearing scheduled for May 26. This case underscores the complexities and potential conflicts that can arise in professional football contracts, particularly concerning financial commitments and player rights.
