Nigerian chef and entertainer Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, is gearing up to make history once more. On September 12, 2025, she plans to cook what she claims will be the world’s largest pot of Nigerian Jollof rice—an event rich in symbolism, flavor, and patriotic pride.
There are already exciting details: the pot measures six metres by six metres, built specially for this purpose in partnership with seasoning brand Gino. She intends to use 250 bags of rice, filling the giant pot to about 75–80% of its 22,619-litre capacity.
The event will take place at Eko Hotel, Lagos, after overwhelming interest forced a venue change from Muri Okunola Park. Registration shows more than 20,000 food lovers have signed up to witness the spectacle.
This is more than just a cooking challenge; it’s a communal moment. Hilda has described the project as a cultural festival celebrating Nigerian cuisine, unity, music, and shared joy. Before she begins, she and her mother were seen praying together—seeking strength, protection, and endurance.
Guinness World Records has acknowledged the attempt, offering their encouragement. “Best of luck Hilda and team!” they said.
As the giant pot heats up, fans hope that this moment will be stamped in the record books—and in hearts across Nigeria and beyond. Because when Jollof rice is this big, it’s never just about the food. It’s about heritage, togetherness, and dreaming outrageously.
