Instagram has announced a major update to its safety policies, blocking all content for teenagers that wouldn’t be allowed in PG-13 movies, in a move aimed at creating a safer and more age-appropriate online environment.
The company said the new restriction will automatically apply to users under 16, filtering out posts, videos, and recommendations that include violence, sexual themes, or strong language — aligning with motion picture content standards.
Meta, Instagram’s parent company, said the change is part of ongoing efforts to protect young users’ mental health and reduce exposure to harmful material, as global regulators intensify scrutiny of social media’s impact on children and teens.
