Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has renewed criticism of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project, alleging that its cost was inflated and urging the federal government to conduct a comprehensive value-for-money audit.
In a statement released on Monday, Atiku said the figures presented by the Ministry of Works raise serious concerns about transparency and accountability, particularly when compared to similar infrastructure projects within and outside Nigeria. He argued that citizens deserve clarity on how public funds are being utilized for such large-scale ventures.
Atiku emphasized that his call was not political but rooted in a commitment to responsible governance and fiscal discipline. He urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to publish full contract details, project scope, and cost breakdowns to ensure public trust and due process in the ongoing highway development.
