Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, claiming they have plunged more than 50 million Nigerians into poverty within just two years.

Obi argued that the administration’s reforms — including subsidy removal and currency devaluation — have worsened inflation, eroded purchasing power, and deepened inequality across the country.

He called for what he described as “a people-centred economic reset,” urging the government to prioritise production, job creation, and social welfare instead of what he termed “elite-driven fiscal experiments.”

“The suffering of Nigerians is not theoretical — it is visible on every street,” Obi stated, warning that without urgent corrective measures, the nation risks an even deeper economic crisis.
