A Magistrate Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, has ordered the remand of Emmanuel Kanu, brother to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, along with Aloy Ejimakor, his lead counsel, and ten other supporters for participating in a pro-Nnamdi Kanu protest near the Federal Capital Territory.
The group was arrested by security operatives during a demonstration calling for the release of the IPOB leader, who remains in custody following his ongoing treason-related trial. Prosecutors told the court that the protest, held without approval, disrupted public order and breached existing restrictions on rallies linked to separatist causes in the capital.
Magistrate Rukayat Adeniyi ruled that the accused be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further hearing scheduled for next week. Meanwhile, IPOB’s legal team has condemned the arrests as “a clear act of intimidation,” insisting that the protest was peaceful and constitutionally protected under freedom of expression and assembly.
