The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected cult leader and political thug known as “Red Angel” in a major operation aimed at curbing pre-election violence. The suspect, who has been on the police watchlist for months, was apprehended in Awka following intelligence reports linking him to a series of violent attacks and intimidation of political opponents.

During the raid, police recovered several firearms, ammunition, and charms allegedly used by the gang to terrorize residents in parts of Awka South and Onitsha. Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye said the arrest forms part of a broader crackdown on criminal elements seeking to disrupt the forthcoming November 8 governorship election.

Adeoye assured the public of the command’s readiness to ensure a peaceful and credible election, warning that security agencies will deal decisively with anyone attempting to incite violence or cause unrest. He urged political parties to conduct their campaigns responsibly and prioritize the safety of voters across the state.
